Research Fellowship Programs

Research Fellowship Programs

Updated Jan 2026 · Ryan Research Institute

Overview

Ryan Research Institute (RRI) operates small, rigorously structured research fellowship programs designed to support advanced scholarly work that extends beyond conventional publication cycles.

These fellowships are not educational programs or training schemes.

They are production-oriented research collaborations, focused on reproducibility, validation, documentation, and methodological consolidation across RRI’s core research lines.

Each fellowship cohort is:

  • limited in size,
  • governed by explicit contribution, authorship, and data-access rules,
  • anchored to a clearly defined research reference (dataset, framework, or formal model).

What This Fellowship Is (and Is Not)

What it is

  • A structured, time-bounded research collaboration
  • Anchored to a fixed dataset, framework, or program line
  • Designed for researchers capable of independent execution
  • Focused on concrete, submission-oriented deliverables

What it is not

  • A course, internship, or residency
  • A mentoring or coaching program
  • A guarantee of authorship, publication, or academic advancement
  • An open-ended exploratory sandbox

Participation assumes professional-level autonomy, accountability, and respect for shared research governance.

Collaboration Model

RRI fellowships are asynchronous by design.

  • Primary collaboration occurs via email and a private, version-controlled repository.
  • Work is document-first: drafts, code, logs, and memos precede discussion.
  • There are no standing or recurring meetings.
  • Video calls are used only when strictly necessary for quality control or bottleneck resolution.
  • Final integration, release packaging, and submission coordination are handled by RRI.

This model prioritizes clarity, traceability, and global accessibility across time zones.

Duration & Milestones (Standard)

The standard fellowship duration is 12–16 weeks, with possible earlier completion depending on progress and deliverable acceptance.

Typical milestones:

  • Week 0: onboarding, access provisioning, governance documents shared
  • Week 2: first progress memo and preliminary outputs
  • Week 6: mid-term deliverable submission and provisional credit snapshot
  • Week 12–16: final deliverables and release package

Exact schedules may be adjusted while preserving scope and standards.

Governance, Credit & Rights (Applies to All Cohorts)

All fellowship programs operate under a formal governance framework, including:

  • Participation Agreement
  • Data Access Agreement
  • Authorship & Credit Policy
  • Deliverables Rights & Licensing Guide

These documents define contribution standards, authorship determination, data usage, confidentiality, and intellectual property rules.

Participation requires explicit acceptance of these terms prior to payment or access.
